![]() I'd make sure that it is tuned in a way that it is saving the files often, and making copies of them on her system in case she encounters corruption. Third, I would make sure that AutoSave is configured in Excel. Many people do not realize that there is a "recent files" list when you just launch Excel, and the last file you were in is at the top. ![]() So, if she closes out of the files in the evening, just launching a blank Excel session might be the fastest way to get them pulled back up (rather than browsing out to the location they are stored in). Second, I would also show the user that Excel tracks the "recent files" in the list. It is important to complete backups, but it is a good opportunity to explain that this is for her benefit so that she will not lose days worth (or even longer) worth of effort. If I were faced with this problem, I would do a few things.įirst, I would take the time to explain to the user that backup seem to be interfering with the files if you have not already. This is specifically related to Excel files and Carbonite. I just thought I would put this out to the community to see if there are any thoughts beside the obvious one. If she closes out of the files before leaving the office, this is a non-issue, but for her to keep a workflow that works for her, she is asking for a way to keep them open and for our backups to continue backing up her files. She can Save As, but saving the files that were left open gives a message that "someone else is working in. ![]() The problem comes in the next morning when she attempts to save the files. The problem is when she leaves them open, we suspect our nightly backup takes issue with those open files, pulls rights and then jumbles permissions when it is done backing up (the backups do go through as scheduled and these open files do get backed up). We have a user that states they need files to remain open over night so she can pick back up where she left off the next day.
